LIGHT & SHADOWS: THRESHOLD OF TIME

While exploring the historic grounds of Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, we found ourselves immersed in a guided tour of the beautifully restored heritage houses. As the guide shared stories of the past, the group moved systematically from room to room. However, as we stepped into this particular stone and wooden structure, my focus completely drifted away from the tour. I caught sight of the heavy, historic door.

The mid-day sun outside was blindingly bright, and it was violently forcing its way through the narrow slats and weathered cracks of the closed door. It created a striking, almost cinematic geometric grid of intense light slitting across the deep, heavy shadows of the stone floor. The contrast was so sharp and mesmerizing that I instantly zoned out from everything else. I knew I had to capture it.

The only challenge was the crowd. I stood there patiently waiting, filled with anticipation, eagerly counting down the seconds for everyone else on the tour to finally head upstairs. The moment the room emptied and I was left entirely alone with the door, the ambient noise fell away, leaving an eerie, beautiful silence. I raised my camera and froze that fleeting intersection of daylight and historical architecture.

This stolen moment of quiet isolation is what inspired Threshold of Time. By transforming this photograph into a fine art piece, I wanted to preserve that feeling of being suspended between the past and the present.
